Celebrating

Phenomenal African Canadians

Big Dreamers

Big Dreamers: The Canadian Black History Activity Book for Kids Volume 1 is the first in a series published by Bright Confetti Media Inc. that celebrates the inspiring contributions of Black Canadians who overcame adversity and went on to achieve greatness while changing the course of history. The book highlights the achievements of Black Canadians whose stories are often left untold.

Big Dreamers explores the people, places and events that paved the way for future generations of Canadians. The book profiles individual “Big Dreamers” from A-Z, provides a historical timeline, examines Black History in each province and territory, and keeps readers engaged with a variety of fun activities including Connect the Dots, Face Match, a Crossword Puzzle and more.

Bright Confetti Media focuses on celebrating diversity in ethnicity, gender, age and orientation through literature. We champion being an agent of positive change and the bravery required to do so. This endeavour is the big dream of Akilah Newton and Tami Gabay. They have been friends for over 15 years.

Akilah Newton is the founder of the Canadian non-profit, Overture with the Arts, an organization that is committed to making performing arts education accessible for children and youth from all walks of life. In that vein, she has married her social activism and passion for education by creating a multi-disciplinary presentation about Black History Month that tours annually across Canada with her twin brother.

Tami Gabay is a creative producer and writer with almost twenty years experience. Diversity, social activism, and political engagement are foundations for her production company, Fat End Productions, and personal credo. She has extensive experience creating materials for young school-age children and has even managed to produce lovely human twins.

The Power Of Your Purchase

With every purchase of Big Dreamers: The Canadian Black History Activity Book For Kids Volume 1, $1.00 will be donated to the Montreal-based non-profit organization, Overture with the Arts (OWTA).

OWTA uses the arts as a vehicle for education to foster an environment of learning, sharing and fun. It provides youth with opportunities to explore the arts and nourish their minds and imaginations, which improves academic performance and creates more responsible, caring members of society. OWTA programs provide important beneficial complements to traditional academic studies, arming youth with

invaluable skills to succeed in life. For more details, visit http://otwa.org
